Levine $1.5 Million Matching Grant Met
Charging Forward Campaign’s Matching Challenge Grant Exceeds Goal
Providence Day School has exceeded the goal of a matching challenge grant relating to its Charging Forward comprehensive campaign.
The announcement was made during the Founders Dinner, formerly known as Leadership and Loyalty, which acknowledges the school’s leadership donors held in the Mosack Athletic Center Sept. 19.
During the event, Dr. Glyn Cowlishaw, Head of School, presented Founders’ Awards, given to individuals whose passion and generosity for PDS has been realized in the lives of faculty and students, to Glenn Mosack ’82 and Hollie Mosack and to Robert and Amy Brinkley.
The Charging Forward campaign is a projected five-year, $27 million initiative with three investment priorities: Annual Fund, endowment and capital projects including the construction of an Academic Center, Campus Gateway and parking deck. PDS officially kicked off the public phase of the campaign Sept. 21, 2015.
During a groundbreaking ceremony for the capital projects May 25, 2016, Howard Levine, former Family Dollar CEO, announced a $1.5 million matching challenge grant. Howard and Julie Levine would match, on a two-for-one basis, any gifts from new investors that include either a capital or endowment component and an Annual Fund designation, as well as any increased commitments from current investors who would like to augment their existing capital or endowment pledges, up to $500,000 by Dec. 31, 2016.
“The PDS community responded with great enthusiasm as they have throughout the campaign, and the challenge was not only met more than three months in advance of the deadline, but also exceeded the goal by raising more than $544,000,” said Jeffrey Appel, Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement.
“We are tremendously grateful to the Levine family for their extraordinary generosity in initiating this exciting challenge grant,” said Cathy Bessant, Charging Forward’s national chair. “Their commitment, and the enthusiastic support of others in our community, has made a positive impact toward the success of the campaign and the future of Providence Day School.”
“Julie and I are thrilled that the goal has been exceeded on our matching challenge grant for the Charging Forward campaign,” said Levine. “We look forward to what comes next — the successful completion of the campaign and the continuing excellence of the Providence Day legacy.”
In addition to the capital projects, PDS seeks to double its endowment and grow its Annual Fund, which supplements each year’s operating budget in support of student programs, campus resources and faculty professional development.
Construction is expected to be completed in fall of 2017.
